Singapore is an eclectic mix of international languages and cultures which greatly influences its musical compositions. A global mix of jazz, classical, opera, oldies, folk music, heavy metal, rock and other musical blends are located through Singapore and its various islands. This great Asian city has become known as a musical haven for local and invited musicians from around the world to come together and share in a common language.

Annual events in the entertainment industry are held in Singapore, which includes the Singapore Arts Festivals and the Singapore Entertainment Awards. These entertainment venues with accomplished Singaporean musicians are held in this city’s grand Concert Hall and its Esplanade Theatre on the Bay and the Esplanade Village and its stadiums. Other events include The World of Music/Arts/Dance (“WOMAD”), the summertime “Singapore River Festival” and the 14 hour musical fest, the “Zouk Out.”

Singaporean musicians pay homage, in their works to many well known performers, such as Michael Jackson, James Brown, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles and Johnny Cash, as well as having musical giants like Andrea Bocelli perform on their stage. The pride of Singapore’s vocal community is Stephanie Sun, also known as Sun Yan Zi, who has received many Singapore Hit Awards for her Mandarin and Teochew vocals.

JJ Lin from Singapore is a singer, composer and songwriter who travels the world, wooing audiences with his “I Am World Tour.” Young impressionists in heavy metal or metal bands can be found throughout Singapore’s towns and on British stages. Groups known as “A Town in Fear” and “Lunarin” are well known in late evening venues and in large stadiums. Their sounds are played on Asian and European top 100 Billboard charts.

The Singaporean vocal and instrumental jazz musicians have received global recognition for their existing work and their improvisational compositions. Popular artists such as the “Muon”, with their jazzy, experimental sounds and Fatt, Shili and Adi, who are a trio, specializing in jazz and R&B. The Asia Academy of Music Arts and Sciences, is a celebrated musical academy. It’s mission is to bring global music together, to introduce the world to Asian talents and to train students in the technique of how to sing.

Additional Singapore musical outlets include “Don Richmond” whose soundtracks capture the spirits of Paul McCartney and Elvis Presley. Singapore’s “Cashew Chemists”quintets, invoke the sounds of the Fab Five and Buddy Holly. Having performed for over 14 years, Tanya Chua of Singapore is coming off her “Tanya Chua and the Cities” 2011 world tour, which was widely acclaimed.
